Job Title: Advisor - Domestic Tax Planning

BASIC FUNCTION:
This position reports to the head of the IRS audit & domestic planning function for Total Holdings USA, Inc. & subsidiaries. The primary focus of this position is the design, implementation and supervision of all significant federal tax planning and special projects.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and/or manage planning projects and research issues related to tax minimization strategies dealing with U.S. federal tax matters and principles including corporate mergers & acquisitions, subsidiary & asset divestitures, partnership transactions, Section 41 credits, Section 199, etc.
- Manage and document the FIN 48 and FAS 5 reserve analysis, which will support the tax reporting function for financial statement and budgeting purposes.
- Monitor proposed legislation and regulations and assist the Vice President of Tax to pro-actively influence legislation if needed.
- Research, develop and apply technical arguments during tax examinations involving U.S. federal tax consequences using statutory, regulatory or judicial authority to forcefully, but tactfully, support the company's position on issues (also may assist with French tax audit inquiries).
- Provide advice to the U.S. affiliates with respect to the tax effect of compensation items (and related reporting).
- The individual should have a high level of technical knowledge regarding U.S. federal tax laws and the ability to apply this knowledge to multiple areas within the tax function. A general ability to use sound judgment and strong interpersonal skills to obtain and determine the source, timing, significance and effective use of tax data is also necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting ; Master's Degree in Taxation preferred; CPA.
- 7+ years experience in income tax planning, compliance and reporting (preferably including two to four years in public accounting) with very strong research skills.
- Experience with U.S. consolidated return issues and Subchapter C is essential. Partnership experience is also helpful.
- Experience with U.S. international tax issues (primarily inbound), FAS 5, and FIN 48 principles are strongly preferred.
- Upstream oil & gas industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills with ability to manage multiple professionals.
- Proficient in MS Office and tax research software.
